Association of Serbian Insurers recommends that the citizens of the Republic of Serbia have a green card for entering the United Kingdom by motor vehicles from January 1, 2021.

On the last day of 2020, the transition period of the process of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland leaving the European Union – BREXIT – is coming to an end. This means that from 1.1.2021. The amended models of functioning will come into force in, which, among other things, refer to cross-border traffic in the Green Card System.
The website of the Government of the United Kingdom states that as of January 1, there is no need to have a green card for the countries that are signatories to the Multilateral System, which includes the Republic of Serbia. However, it is stated that the driver of a motor vehicle must have “another valid proof of insurance” which should contain the name of the insurance company, the number plate of the car and the period of validity of the insurance.
The expert bodies of the Green Card System stated that this implies possible controls by the competent authorities at the borders of Great Britain. Given that “other valid evidence of insurance” can only be insurance policies, and given that most policies are not written in English, some even in Latin, it is recommended that all drivers from Green Card system countries who drive a motor vehicle entrances to the UK have a valid green card, to avoid possible problems.
